LAS ANIMAS, Colo. (KKTV) - Colorado Parks and Wildlife is asking for the public’s help in finding out who they say is responsible for poaching and abandoning the bodies of four large bull elk.

Wildlife officials said the elk were illegally shot on Sept. 13, 26 and 27 on four separate ranches in Las Animas County near Stonewall and Picketwire.

CPW said one elk was found shot and abandoned whole, another was found wounded and had to be put down, a third was found shot with the backstraps removed and the fourth was found with its head removed with no meat taken.

“These were senseless and disgraceful acts which demonstrates a complete disregard for Colorado wildlife,” Jim Hawkins, CPW Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement and Operation Game Thief Coordinator said.
