EDINA, Minn. — The old Southdale Library has been fully demolished and this week, leaders will ceremoniously break ground on the new building.
According to Hennepin County, the former library building opened more than 50 years ago in 1971 on York Avenue South, and studies found it was a better value to residents to demolish the building and construct a new one.
"The project will transform the site into a regional destination for learning, creativity and community connection," Hennepin County said in a news release.
The new library will cost an estimated $106.8 million, funded through general obligation bonds. The Edina Art Center will also be housed in the building as a tenant.
