LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A federal government shutdown impacts everything from food pantries, all the way to the local health department and the services they provide for the public.

Local health departments, like the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department (LFCHD), rely on the federal government for support, such as federal grants for education on diabetes. 35,000 people in Fayette County deal with that disease.
“Not all, but many of our federal grants are going to be put on hold until Congress gets this all straightened out,” said Dr. Steve Davis with LFCHD.
There are complex cases locally in which health departments may need to loop in the CDC or other federal health agencies for assistance. During a shutdown, there could be delays.
