DALLAS — For three nights, Berenice Prieto said she lived in agony, not knowing whether her husband was alive.
Norlan Guzmán Fuentes, 37, had been transferred from the Tarrant County Jail after serving time for a DUI to a Dallas ICE detention center. The night before, he called Prieto, as he always did. He told her he would call her after being transferred to the ICE facility.
Then the calls stopped.
She saw the news headlines and learned there was a shooting at the ICE facility he was headed to. She learned that a gunman fired at a transport van from a nearby rooftop.
