IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - An Iowa City group said freedom of speech was under attack from national incidents to one in Eastern Iowa.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk, a man who spotlighted the First Amendment, and then Jimmy Kimmel was taken off the air, only to return for what he said about the shooting. In Eastern Iowa, a US Representative, Ashley Hinson, has called for a federal investigation after a segment on bisexual awareness aired on a high school news program.

On Wednesday, people in Iowa City gathered around the topic of constitutional rights to speak, pray, and assemble without fear.

Dozens of people gathered in the Pedmall to discuss the First Amendment and the protection it guarantees. It’s a topic Ann Bendixen feels is threatened under the Trump administration.
