AVOYELLES PARISH, La. (KALB) - The Village of Hessmer has fallen into the crosshairs of Louisiana after an audit found several state law violations.

An annual financial audit for the fiscal years of 2023 and 2024, released publicly by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor, found that the Avoyelles Parish town may have violated state law, improperly handled financial documents and failed to account for missing money collected through fines and citations issued by the town’s police.

Auditors found that since 2021, the town had not been collecting fees associated with traffic tickets, despite state law mandating it.
