TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - A suspect has been apprehended after a bicyclist was killed on a Tucson bike path last week. On October 1, Tucson police officers tracked down and arrested 26-year-old Michael Francisco on Stone Avenue near the Tohono Tadai Transit Center.
Francisco fled from officers by jumping into a nearby wash, but was captured with the help of the TPD Air Unit. He has been charged with second-degree murder for the stabbing of Enrique Mercado during a confrontation.
The incident initially unfolded on September 23, when officers responded to a 9-1-1 call along the river path near Diamond Street Loop. Mercado was found with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
