ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Holy Grounds Coffee Shop in Elmira Heights opened its doors today to join an initiative happening across the country, National Coffee With A Cop Day.

Throughout the day, multiple law enforcement agencies in the area stopped by to take part. The Chemung County Sheriff's Office closed out the day with some deputies even hopping behind the counter to make drinks for customers.

Chemung County Sheriff Bill Schrom says these events are a great way to speak with members of the community and allow them to see law enforcement in a different setting.

"The biggest advantage is it's in a very comfortable, neutral type of setting," said Sheriff Schrom. "They're not interacting with us at a tragic scene. They're not interacting with us at a bad time in their life. It'
