GILA COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — A national nonprofit is currently in Gila County, helping in the aftermath of last week’s catastrophic flash floods.
Operation Barbeque Relief is not only feeding crews in charge of recovery efforts, but also families who were impacted and are now struggling to get groceries.
The organization started in response to the EF-5 tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri, in 2011 and killed more than 150 people. Now, Operation Barbeque Relief has boots on the ground in Gila County for another deadly natural disaster that hit Globe, Miami, and Claypool.
“This particular disaster deployment is the first time that Operation Barbeque Relief has done a disaster deployment in Arizona,” said Jerry Hingtgen, the nonprofit’s regional director.
He and a team of volunteers are fe
