Two Delta Airlines planes collided at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday night, leaving passengers shaken and at least one person injured.

The incident unfolded while both aircraft were taxiing at low speed.

Images from the runway showed one of the planes had lost part of its wing, while the nose of another was badly damaged.

Passengers and crew were ushered onto the tarmac as emergency services and police swarmed the scene.

“They were taxiing to the gate at LGA after landing at CLT when they were struck by another Delta regional jet that was taxiing by,” a CBS News producer onboard flight DL5047 said afterwards.

The collision comes as pressure grows on the Federal Aviation Administration over severe staffing shortages and warnings of potential safety failures.
