**Man Shot After Car Ramming and Stabbing at Manchester Synagogue**
A man has been shot following a violent incident involving a car ramming and a stabbing at a synagogue in Manchester. The event unfolded at the Heaton Park synagogue on Middleton Road this morning, prompting a swift response from Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
Police received a call at 9.31am from a member of the public who reported seeing a vehicle driving towards pedestrians. Officers arrived on the scene within minutes, and by 9.38am, they had shot the suspected attacker.
In total, four individuals sustained injuries, with only one injury linked to the stabbing. GMP has classified the incident as a PLATO event, indicating a potential terrorism connection, although this has not yet been confirmed.
A spokesperson for GMP stated, "We’re responding to an incident outside a synagogue on Middleton Road in Manchester. Police were called to the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, on Middleton Road, Crumpsall, at 9.31am by a member of the public, stating he had witnessed a car being driven towards members of the public and one man had been stabbed."
The police declared a major incident at 9.37am, and firearms officers were on the scene shortly after. Paramedics arrived at 9.41am to assist those injured, which included both stab wounds and injuries from the vehicle.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area as investigations continue. Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham addressed the situation, stating, "It's a serious incident I have to say. I would say to people to avoid the area because it's a serious incident but at the same time I can give some reassurance that the immediate danger appears to be over."
He praised the rapid response of GMP and the support from the public and security personnel at the location, noting, "The situation has been dealt with very effectively by GMP and those on-site." The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
