Mahatma Gandhi Statue Restored: From Attack to Renewal on International Day of Non-Violence The iconic Mahatma Gandhi statue at Tavistock Square, London, has been restored after being vandalised earlier this week. The restoration was completed in time for Gandhi Jayanti and the International Day of Non-Violence, sending a strong message of resilience. Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami called it “a symbol of India-UK friendship” and praised the local community for its support. Unveiled in 1968, the statue has been a focal point of annual commemorations, symbolising Gandhi’s historic London connection. Despite being defaced, the statue now shines brighter than ever, standing tall against hatred and reaffirming Gandhi’s timeless legacy of truth, peace, and non-violence.
