A Richmond County sheriff's deputy and a suspect were shot early Thursday following an armed robbery at an Augusta gas station.
After a call from a victim at about 12:30 a.m. saying he had been robbed at gunpoint at the BP gas station on the 3000 block of Washington Road, deputies arrived and spotted Dalyn Dewayne Elder, 20, of Augusta, start to run away. Deputies chased after him, and once they reached a nearby Waffle House, Elder turned and fired on the deputies, hitting one of them multiple times in the torso as the deputy returned fire, noted a news release from the sheriff's office.
Authorities said Elder ran again, this time behind the Outback restaurant, where he fired at another deputy, Cpl. Amanda Donald, who returned fire and shot the suspect.
The wounded deputy, Victor Rodgri
