NEW YORK —

The Red Sox and Yankees will face off in a winner-take-all Game 3 on Thursday night.

New York forced a Game 3 with a 4-3 win in Wednesday's Game 2 .

Ben Rice, who used to play at Dartmouth College, hit a two-run home run in the first inning off starting pitcher Brayan Bello.

The Red Sox rallied to tie the game at 2-2, and later rallied again to tie it 3-3, but the Yankees scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a single from Austin Wells.

With their season on the line, Boston will turn to 23-year-old rookie starting pitcher Connelly Early. New York will counter with 24-year-old rookie Cam Schlittler.

First pitch Thursday is set for 8:08 p.m.

Lucas Giolito was originally slated to start Game 3 for Boston, but he is out with an elbow injury .
