A sudden spell of rainfall on Thursday evening cast a shadow over Dussehra festivities in the national capital, leading to the cancellation of several high-profile events, including those where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi were scheduled to participate.

The highly anticipated Raavan Dahan programme, where PM Modi was to attend as chief guest, had to be called off due to continuous rain. Similarly, Sonia Gandhi was expected at the Dussehra celebrations organised by the Shri Dharmik Leela Committee at the Parade Ground near Red Fort, but the programme was cancelled as showers lashed the city.

In Pitampura, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah was scheduled to join Vijayadashami celebrations, visuals showed soggy grounds and attendees huddling under umbrellas
