Jazz with a unique Native American spin will fill the Davis Concert Hall on Saturday when the Delbert Anderson Quartet takes the stage. The combo blends songs from trumpeter Anderson’s Diné heritage with the diverse musical backgrounds of its other members, creating a sound that’s both forward looking and deeply rooted in longstanding American traditions.
The performance is the season opener for the Fairbanks Concert Association. It will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Davis Concert Hall at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
“I’ll bring a melody and it’s usually inspired by our Diné spinning songs,” Anderson said about how the quartet forms its compositions. These are traditional songs that explore love, healing, courtship, and stories.
