UNC basketball and Butler will play a home-and-home series in the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.

According to a press release sent out Oct. 2, the Tar Heels will host the Bulldogs at the Smith Center in November or December 2026 before traveling to historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in either November or December 2027.

UNC hasn’t hosted Butler in Chapel Hill since 1994 and the Tar Heels haven’t played at Hinkle Fieldhouse since 1992. Located in Indianapolis, the fieldhouse was featured in “Hoosiers,” the 1986 movie based on a high school basketball team in Indiana.

Looking at the series history, UNC and Butler have split six meetings. The programs haven’t played since the Sweet 16 of 2017 NCAA Tournament in a game the Tar Heels won before going on to cut down the nets as national champions
