Police have confirmed the source of a 'loud bang' heard at the scene of a terror attack in Crumpsall .

Officers descended on Middleton Road at 9.34am this morning (October 2) following reports of a stabbing and a man driving a car into people outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue.

Two members of the public have tragically died following the incident, which took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest fast day in the Jewish calendar.

Members of the Jewish community had gathered to mark the occasion before the horror unfolded.

Armed police shot the suspect dead. He was found with a suspicious item on his person, and a bomb disposal team was called out to the scene.
