The Desert Empire League may have a new cross country star, and another who may very well be on his way to becoming the best there’s ever been at La Quinta High School.

On Wednesday at Xavier Prep, Palm Desert sophomore Marina Avila took first place in the girl’s DEL preview, and La Quinta senior Luis-Fernando Martinez again took first in the boys’ race.
