State pensioners have been issued a deadline to come forward for a special one-off payment.

The UK government is issuing payments of between £200 to £300 to eligible pensioners this winter.

The handouts are known as Winter Fuel Payments and are designed to support elderly households during the colder months.

Most state pensioners will be issued the payments automatically if they're eligible, including those who claim benefits such as Universal Credit , Pension Credit or the State Pension but some others may need to apply.

The payments are aimed at helping households to pay their heating bills during the winter
