SPRINGFIELD, MA. (WGGB/WSHM) - Springfield officials announced Thursday that they’ll be expanding their efforts at recreational areas throughout the city in an effort to tackle public safety issues.
Several local leaders, including members from the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and Springfield Public Schools officials, were in attendance for the announcement at Johnny Appleseed Park. The enhanced partnership now means the city’s parks department will receive additional help from public safety with clean-up efforts, including proper disposal of drug paraphernalia. The sheriff’s office will now have dedicated crews that are trained to go to recreational areas in the city and properly pick-up and dispose of items like used needles.
