As of Wednesday, 44 cases of the measles have been reported in the state of Utah from June 20 to Sept. 30, with the majority of the cases originating in Southern Utah. Measles was initially believed to have been eradicated by government officials in the year 2000.

For reference, measles is a highly contagious disease with some general misconceptions listed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on their website. Symptoms of measles tend to appear seven to 14 days after exposure to the virus.

These symptoms include a high fever that may spike to more than 104 degrees, a cough, runny nose, red/watery eyes, and the rash most commonly associated with measles.
