A 31-year-old Helena man was sentenced Oct. 1 in Lewis and Clark County District Court for felony sexual abuse of children and will serve 15 years in prison.

Casey Christopher Newman was sentenced by District Court Judge Michael McMahon in accordance with a plea agreement filed in district court Aug. 22 and received 35 years to the Montana State Prison with 20 years suspended.

He was originally charged in March with two felony counts of sexual abuse of children following a monthslong investigation, but prosecutors agreed to dismiss his second count, documents said.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including a Missoula County Sheriff's Office agent assigned to an FBI taskforce, the Helena Police Department, the National Center for Missing or Exploited Children and more.
