NEW CANTON, Ill. (WGEM) - Officials with the Hull Kinderhook Fire Protection District Facebook page are urging residents to stay indoors due to an active shooter in the area.

New Canton City Clerk officials said the shooter has not been located and is still advising residents to stay indoors.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office confirmed there is an active shooter.

Pikeland School District officials stated that all Pikeland schools have been in Safe and Secure mode since 8:00 a.m.

Pikeland school officials said no afternoon preschool or early childhood classes on Thursday.

Officials also stated that buses will not transport preschool morning students during the Safe and Secure mode.

Western School District has been in a soft lockdown since 7:15 a.m., and police have been on site.
