Thousands of people are being urged to join a protest this weekend over pollution caused by water companies.
Ed Acteson, co-founder of SOS Whitstable, says the group has been campaigning against sewage and storm releases being pumped into the sea for several years, but progress from the industry has been too slow.
He described the upcoming demonstration – the group’s third in Whitstable – as a call for major reform of the water industry, including a push towards public ownership.
“It’s significant because the area of the beach that we're protesting on is called The Street, and it's near one of the main outfalls in Whitstable, which is a real culprit for sewage releases in the area,” he said.
