LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A Laredo man is facing charges for allegedly killing a dog in west Laredo.

On Thursday morning, October 2, at 1:14 a.m., Laredo Police officers responded to a call about gunshots fired near a residence on the 1500 block of Lafayette St.

When officers arrived at the home, they spoke to 32-year-old Jorge Alberto Diaz, who told police that he had heard noises outside his home. When he went outdoors, he noticed a German Shepherd.

Police say Diaz reportedly fired his weapon, killing the dog. Because of this, he was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm within a municipality and animal cruelty.

The investigation is still ongoing.
