KALAMAZOO, MI –– Pat Ferschweiler knew the architects designing the new $515 million Kalamazoo Event Center were a shrewd and important group of people.
But he also knew the importance of the Lawson Lunatics.
So, Western Michigan hockey’s national championship-winning coach sent the architects responsible in designing the future home of the Broncos on a side quest –– a full-on experience through the lens of the Lawson Lunatics, WMU’s renowned and rowdy student fanbase.
The ordeal included waiting in the Lawson student line and a full-on experience in the Lunatics’ section at a prior WMU game.
