CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A shooting that unfolded near an old hotel in northwest Charlotte Thursday afternoon has now evolved into a homicide investigation after both people who were found at the scene died.

Medic initially confirmed to WCNC Charlotte that it happened around 1 p.m. along Eddleman Road, near I-85 and Bradford Drive. Two people were found and taken away for treatment. One patient had life-threatening injuries, while the other had minor injuries.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department later shared an alert that confirmed the scene was being treated as a homicide. In a press briefing shortly before 3:30 p.m., CMPD said both patients had died. Further details, however, were not immediately available.
