GALVESTON, Texas (KIAH) -- Police in Galveston are investigating a deadly high-speed chase on Pelican Island that left one person dead due to an officer-related shooting.
The chase began around 4 a.m. Thursday morning on the mainland when Hitchcock police attempted a traffic stop. The driver in the vehicle did not stop and began the chase, with Galveston Police and the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.
The driver was stuck on the island and went to the entrance of Seawolf Park, where he got out of the vehicle and fired several shots from a pistol, police said.
Officers at the scene tried to negotiate with the suspect, but the situation changed when the suspect allegedly pointed his gun at the direction of the officers trying to negotiate with him, police said. A Galveston police office
