Wherever you are in Victoria, the deer aren’t far away.
Fairfield’s Ross Cemetery is a haven for the four-legged foliage foragers. “There’s usually a dozen deer at any given time,” says Ryan Michael, who runs the popular Facebook group Friends of Vancouver Island.
Michael is no wildlife expert, but he knows an emergency when he sees one.
Last Saturday someone posted a picture to social media of a young male deer wandering Fairfield with a tennis net – ball still attached – wrapped tightly around its head.
Michael posted the picture to the group, and it quickly bounced around the internet.
“The blog went viral,” he said. “It had over a hundred thousand views in a short period of time.”
He contacted the BC Conservation Officer Service, but says he was told no officer could attend unles
