ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Science Center has terminated its esports program, citing limited interest.

The organization launched its esports programming, which included computer education and video game competition, five years ago. It created its own esports team for children between the ages of 9 and 13, hosted tournaments and opened its esports area for the public.

A spokesperson for the science center, however, said the audience for that programming had been “fairly limited” and had operated at a “slight loss.” The organization ultimately decided to cut the program in alignment with its strategic plan .

Three part-time employees were laid off as a result, and the organization's contract with a school program with eight students was not renewed, said Mindy Peirce, the science center'
