Former Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick has secured a surprising new position with UEFA amidst ongoing pressure on Ruben Amorim to deliver results.

The 43-year-old former Boro manager has been linked with an unexpected return to Old Trafford as caretaker boss should the Man United leadership decide to part company with the Portuguese head coach.

He has previously fulfilled this position, having served as interim manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's exit from the club.

Carrick's debut match in charge was a victory over Villarreal in the Champions League and he also secured a 3-2 triumph over Arsenal in the Premier League .
