Storm Amy is set to batter the UK with strong winds and heavy rain.

The Met Office has several yellow and amber weather warnings in place on Friday and Saturday (October 3 and 4).

Gusts of up to 60mph are expected, reaching 70mph in some areas and 80mph in exposed coastal and hilltop locations.

Northern Scotland was forecast to see the strongest winds, with heavy rain expected across western Scotland.

In light of the upcoming storm, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has advised the public to take immediate precautions, the Mirror reports.
