WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WJBF) – Deputies from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious motor vehicle crash in Waynesboro on Thursday.

According to the Sheriff's Office on Oct. 2, a preliminary investigation revealed that a tractor-trailer traveling southbound on Highway 23 struck a pickup truck on the driver’s side after the truck failed to yield at the stop sign on Botsford Church Road.

The driver of the pickup truck sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as 50-year-old Brian Wingate of Waynesboro.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Burke County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is investigating the incident.
