Nick Saban would have accurately been described as “crabby” during his 17-year tenure as Alabama football’s head coach, especially when a player messed up on the field or a reporter asked a question he didn’t want to answer. However, until now, one would never describe a crab as like Saban.

That changed recently. UA researchers announced on Thursday that an ancient crab they discovered in Lowdes County will be known as the Saban crab.

The full name of the crab is “Costacopluma nicksabani” according to a release from Alabama announcing the discovery. The Saban crab was among eight new species of crab and shrimp fossils the researchers found.
