LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Each place setting tells a story, a life once full, now cut short.
Inside the Luzerne County Courthouse, tables were set with plates, photos, and personal belongings, reminders of county residents who lost their lives to domestic violence.
This year, two new settings were added in honor of women killed in 2023.
“Sometimes when things are done annually, it becomes the norm,” said Luzerne County Councilman Keith-Alexandre. “But every year it renews hope.”
The event is organized each year by the Domestic Violence Service Center in Wilkes-Barre, which continues to expand services as demand grows. More than 300 survivors and children received shelter and support through the center last year.
