In a new editorial, Portland Mayor Keith Wilson bemoaned the social media narratives that he said have created a “yawning chasm” between an alleged Rose City battlefield and quotidian reality.
The missive, published Thursday in Time magazine, is an open letter of sorts to President Donald Trump and those supporting his deployment of 200 federalized Oregon National Guard troops to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in South Portland.
Wilson said that the president was likely spurred to action by antagonistic national media coverage that reused footage from 2020.
The city doesn’t need or want the troop deployment , according to the mayor.
