Manchester United legend Michael Carrick has landed a surprise new role with UEFA amid ongoing pressure on Ruben Amorim to deliver results.

The 44-year-old former Middlesbrough boss has been linked with a surprise return to Old Trafford as interim boss, should the Man United hierarchy choose to part ways with the Portuguese head coach.

It's a role he's worked in before having acted as caretaker manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure from the club. Carrick's first game in charge was a win over Villarreal in the Champions League and he also picked up a 3-2 win over Arsenal in the Premier League .

He stepped down from his position as first-team coach following Ralph Rangnick's arrival at Old Trafford, having picked up two wins and one draw in his interim
