PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Multnomah County is set to receive an additional $4.7 million for addiction prevention and recovery programs over the next nine years as part of a settlement with the Sackler family and Purdue Pharma for their part in the national opioid crisis, the county announced on Thursday.

Under the settlement, the Sacklers will pay up to $6.5 billion, and their company, Purdue Pharma, L.P., will pay up to $900 million, pending final approval by bankruptcy courts. From that money, about $66 million will go to the State of Oregon , with 45% going to the Oregon Health Authority and 55% going to local governments within the state.

Since fiscal year 2023, Multnomah County has received over $17 million in direct payments to fund addiction treatment and recovery, the county said.
