CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland Immigration Court proceedings and local deportations have, so far, been unaffected by the federal government shutdown that began Wednesday, attorneys say.

The immigration courts across the country have become key flashpoints in President Donald Trump’s first 10 months in office. While other federal offices have been shuttered, the courts appear to continue handling deportations and other matters.

The last shutdown, which came during Trump’s first term, saw delays in court proceedings for non-detained migrants. Nearly 100,000 cases nationwide were put on hold, according to the American Immigration Council, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit.
