MONTPELIER – The Vermont Agency of Education has issued a Report on the Current State of Special Education Delivery, a tool for legislators in enacting education reform.
The state’s comprehensive education reform law H. 454 (Act 73), passed this year, mandated the report, which is a step toward developing Vermont’s three-year strategic plan for special education. A report focusing on solutions will be released at a later date.
The report notes that while overall student enrollment has decreased, the number of students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) has risen.
“The state has also experienced growth in the number of students qualifying for extraordinary expenses, indicating not only that more students are being identified, but that the intensity and complexity of their needs coul
