SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Along with creating hardship for hundreds of thousands of people, the government shutdown is also creating opportunities for scammers looking to cash in on the crisis.
The Better Business Bureau advises being wary of individuals claiming to be government officials attempting to contact you. It lists the top scams as threats to take away your government benefits unless you hand over data, offers of money to those worried about government funds, and fake job offers.
“The IRS is not going to call you,” said Pamela Hernandez of the Better Business Bureau. “They’re not going to call you, they’re not going to threaten you.
