CANTON, New York (WWNY) - Thursday morning, parts of the North Country saw their first frost of the season. Dipping below 32 degrees, it was chilly for you and your plants.

“We’ve had really warm weather, so last night was a bit of a shock to some plants,” said Brenda Snow, manager of White’s Flowers in Canton.

She says that at freezing temperatures, water inside a flower can freeze, damaging or even killing the plant. To help protect them, she recommends covering them before a cold night.

“If you have some garbage bags, rip them apart. Just make a loose cover. That’ll take care of temperatures, 30 degrees or so. If you get that super hard 20 degrees, you really need to move them inside,” she said.

She says another thing to consider is the type of plants you have.
