CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Carbondale Police Department is seeking volunteers for its annual Halloween safety initiative, "Pumpkin Patrol."
The event, taking place on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m., has been a community staple since 1992. Volunteers will patrol neighborhoods in orange safety vests or vehicles with the "Pumpkin Patrol" logo, focusing on areas where children trick-or-treat.
The initiative aims to identify potential hazards and provide a safe haven for children who may feel unsafe. While adults are encouraged to accompany their children, the presence of the patrol offers additional safety.
Those interested in volunteering for the "Pumpkin Patrol" can contact Officer Randy Mathis at 618-457-3200, Extension 402, or via email at rmathis@explorecarbondale.com
