(FOX40.COM) — A minor is dead, and three others were left with major injuries after a solo-vehicle crash in Placer County.

CHP said officers responded to reports of a crash around noon near the westbound Interstate-80 just west of Highway 74.

Authorities released that their investigation determined that the car spun off the highway for an unknown reason before going down an embankment and hitting a tree.

The engine compartment then caught on fire, CHP said.

One juvenile was killed, and three others in the vehicle were left severely hurt, officials said.
