LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) — It is the second day that the state of Michigan is operating without a state budget in place as lawmakers continue to work through the process to reach a deal.
It’s quiet at the capitol as lawmakers are make their way to Lansing. The continuing resolution that is keeping the state government funded is in effect until Oct. 8. The story here will change drastically if the legislature doesn't get the votes.
Once lawmakers gavel in tonight, they will first be taking up the marijuana tax — that must pass first because that money from the 24% tax would create around $420 million for roads that is baked in to the budget. The tax has already been passed in the House, but the Senate still needs to vote on it.
