WASHINGTON, D.C. (KXNET) — Senators are trying to work out an agreement to reopen the federal government, but North Dakota's public school superintendent will likely soon be confirmed to a new federal role.

Senator Kevin Cramer tells KX News that Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler is one of more than 100 nominees who are expected to be confirmed to federal appointments. Baesler was nominated for the role of assistant U.S. education secretary months ago, but her confirmation was stalled, and Cramer says it took changing the rules by Senate leadership to allow for approving nominees in groups rather than a single vote.
