BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) -- As of Sept. 30, anyone under the age of 21 in Ohio has to complete more driver training requirements before taking the test to get their license. These requirements used to only apply to 16 and 17-year-olds.

Greg Anderson, owner of the local All Star Driving School, weighed in on the changes.

"The crash rates among teenagers skyrocketed at 18-19 years old, from 16 years old. So, it actually proves that driver's training does work," Anderson said.

The training consists of 24 hours of classroom or online lessons. The requirements also include eight hours of in-car lessons with a driving instructor, plus another 50 hours behind the wheel with another licensed driver.
