MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man wanted in a deadly shooting in the Cooper-Young area last year shot and killed himself while trying to evade officers on Monday, according to police.

Thursday, the MPD identified the man as 19-year-old Jaxx High. They said High was the suspect who shot himself Monday at the Wendy's on Highland Street when officers tried to take him into custody.

He was taken to Regional One, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said High was charged with second-degree murder after a man was gunned down in the Cooper-Young Area of Midtown in July 2024.

Officers responded to a shooting in the 2000 block of Felix Avenue at 12:20 a.m.

A man was pronounced dead on the scene, and a woman was taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition.
