HILLSBORO, Ore. — Police said they have identified the body parts found in the Tualatin River in early August and are asking for assistance in the homicide investigation.

A kayaker had discovered a body part on Aug. 8 near the boat ramp of Rood Bridge Park in Hillsboro. A day later, a second body part was found approximately one mile downriver from where the first body part was found, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The Oregon State Police Crime Lab and the state medical examiner's office were able to determine that the human remains belonged to one person, then identified the victim as 34-year-old Ezequiel Avila-Ruiz. Avila Ruiz was known to camp in multiple areas, including around Rood Bridge Park, police said.
